Exploring the mainland of Rethymnon heading the southern coast until we reach the amazing Kourtaliotis gorge, one of the most spectacular natural attractions of Crete. Along its length, huge cliffs of limestone, reaching 500 meters in height, are full of caves, where many species of birds are nesting, especially raptors, making the Kourtaliotis gorgean important biotope. The scenery is breathtaking, and the waterfalls are a must-see for nature enthusiasts and travelers.
Afterwards we’ll reach the historical orthodox monastery of Prevelis that has played a vital role in the revolts of the Cretan people against their occupants. It is located at a gorgeous site with an amazing view to the Libyan Sea.
Next visit is a beautiful beach of Kalypso. It’s known for its stunning natural beauty, clear blue waters, and golden sands. At Kalypso is a relaxing day by the sea, perfect for swimming and soaking up the sun.
On our way back the village Myrthios is the next destination where you can enjoy a breath-taking view of Plakias.
Then driving through the Kotsyfos Gorge, a place of spectacular wild beauty, and cross several traditional small villages.
